Just before the weekend, here's the latest WP news from us: The update to WordPress 5.2 comes with an important security feature, the global WP Translation Day takes place tomorrow, the WP admin area is to be simplified and we have an exciting interview with a digital nomad. We're also giving away a weekend at WordCamp Europe 2019 in Berlin.
Interview: What life as a digital nomad really means
"It actually all started with a very inspiring lecture by Nick Martin (6 years of world travel, the coolest gap in your CV) at the end of 2016," says Michael Hörnlimann. At the time, he was still working in an agency and was often the first person in the office in the morning and the last in the evening. Today, Michael works completely remotely and leads a life that is often referred to as "digital nomadism". He told us in an interview how location-independent working works and what the advantages and disadvantages of this model are.

WordPress 5.2 brings an important security feature
Thanks to WordPress auto-updates, users don't have to worry about keeping their software up to date with the latest security status. However, if an attacker were to take control of the WP servers, they could use this function to spread malicious code to millions of websites. Thanks to WordPress 5.2, this risk is now minimized by cryptographically securing the auto-updates.
May 11 is WP Translation Day
Tomorrow, May 11, is WP Translation Day. The event calls for a 24-hour global translation marathon of themes, plugins, documentation and more. The aim is to make the WordPress ecosystem accessible to as many people as possible. Just take a look at the many online sessions or visit one of the local events near you!
New design for the admin area?
The design of the WP dashboard has hardly changed for years. Especially with many active plugins, the admin area can become quite confusing. That's why there is now a suggestion on Trac to make the navigation bar more user-friendly and scalable. There are even concrete mockups for a new navigation display.

Modular landing pages with ACF
Even though Gutenberg already offers many design options, some websites and landing pages are too complex for the new WP editor. To still offer your customers a simple user interface, you can use Advanced Custom Fields to build flexible layout modules. Bill Erickson shows you how this works in his detailed tutorial.
