A day late, St. Nicholas has brought you the WP News: The main focus of today's news is, of course, yesterday's release of WordPress 5.0. Due to the tight schedule, not all plugins managed to be 100% Gutenberg-compatible for the release. You can also find out today which SEO measures will be particularly important in 2019. And we'll show you how we've been working on Raidboxes' corporate vision.
SEO Guide 2019: RankBrain, Mobile First & Voice Search
Due to Google's regular algorithm updates, there are always new best practices in search engine optimization (SEO) that you should know and apply. In 2019, it will therefore be exciting to see which measures you can use to bring your content even further forward. Michael Schöffmann from the advertising agency FUXIG has some valuable SEO tips for you and explains why Google's artificial intelligence RankBrain as well as Mobile First and Voice Search will set the tone next year in addition to the existing ranking factors.
More common good please! Steps towards a corporate vision
A few weeks ago, we held an open workshop format with the entire team to discuss sustainability and our contribution to the common good and society. Our aim was to use these ideas to develop a medium and long-term vision for Raidboxes. Our Managing Director Johannes tells you how we went about it, what insights we gained and what the interim result was after part 1 of the vision workshop.
Gutenberg and WordPress 5.0
WordPress 5.0 is here!
After months of waiting, WordPress 5.0 was released last night, December 6th. As the final release date was announced only two days in advance by Matt Mullenweg, there were some indignant comments and tweets from the WP community. Our update recommendation: If your website is not yet Gutenberg-compatible or you haven't had time to test it, wait until the most important plugins and themes are running under the new WP version. You can find more information about how we handle the update and how you can test WP 5.0 here.
ACF not yet Gutenberg-ready
One day before the release of WordPress 5.0, Advanced Custom Fields issued a clear message that many plugin and theme developers would probably sign: "We have been working hard to juggle the difficult task of Gutenberg development whilst still supporting an existing product. Yet, due to buggy betas, fast paced release candidates and lack of documentation, we are unfortunately not ready for the WordPress 5.0 release."
Free livestream from WCUS
WordCamp US will take place in Nashville from December 7 to 9. The sessions start today at 9:30 CST (16:30 in Germany). There are many exciting topics that you can follow in the livestream. The streaming ticket is free - but you have to register here. The focus of this year's WCUS is of course the Gutenberg Editor. At 10:30 CST, there will be a session on "The Future of WordPress is Gutenberg" by Gary Pendergast, one of the WordPress 5.0 co-leads.
Matt Mullenweg in a Gutenberg interview
A few days before the release of WordPress 5.0, WP co-founder Matt Mullenweg answered Adam from WPCrafter's questions for a whole hour. The main topics of the interview are, of course, the new Gutenberg editor, WordPress 5.0 and Matt's future plans for our favorite CMS.
