You may have already noticed that a lot has been going on behind the scenes at Raidboxes. In April 2024, one of the biggest and most important developments of recent years went live: our new server infrastructure. Our customers can look forward to significantly more performance, state-of-the-art technologies, enhanced security features and more!
In this article we explain what you need to know about Raidboxes 2.0, how you can benefit from our new servers and which changes will be rolled out and when.
This changes with Raidboxes 2.0
You benefit in three areas in particular:
- More performance
- More security
- Simpler development and administration
More performance
Double the performance (CPU & RAM) Update
Probably the most important new feature is the significant performance boost for all Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes, which have twice the resources available on the new servers. With the adapted virtualization environment and the addition of RAM, your website will definitely have enough computing power at its disposal. In addition, the PHP memory limit has been increased so that your scripts do not abort or cannot be executed completely due to insufficient memory.
Here's what you can look forward to:
- Mini: 1 vCore, 2 GB RAM (previously shared resources)
- Starter: 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM
- Fully Managed: 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM
- Pro: 4 vCores, 8 GB RAM
Advanced caching based on Varnish New
Our Varnish-based advanced caching allows you to selectively empty your website's cache on a page-by-page basis. This is particularly important for large magazines and WooCommerce stores, as the cache of the rest of the website remains untouched and your pages continue to be delivered at lightning speed.
Container architecture: Independent system per service New
Thanks to the new container architecture, each service (web server, database, Varnish, etc.) is now an isolated, independent system with its own resources. This separation allows for improved resource utilization, easier maintenance and better fault isolation. In addition, each service can be scaled and managed independently, which improves flexibility, resilience and scalability.
Dedicated staging: No more shared resources for live site and staging New
Staging and live websites no longer share computing power with Raidboxes 2.0. Thanks to the staging environment's own resources (CPU, RAM, SSD, etc.), the loading time and performance of your live website are no longer affected by staging. At the same time, staging works as you know it from Raidboxes and allows a live push of your changes with one click.
Dedicated CPU New
With dedicated hardware/CPU cores, you benefit from maximum performance as the cores are exclusively available to you. This means: no shared resources and always full computing power - regardless of whether you are using them fully or not.
More security
The new servers also have decisive new security features - summarized under the name Raidboxes Security Shield.
Web Application Firewall New
Our web application firewall monitors incoming traffic and blocks malicious requests and unwanted bots - for a secure website around the clock.
Exploit Detector New
Our new Exploit Detector monitors network traffic and the behavior of the Apache server, checks new pages for suspicious scripts and files in the future, detects known and suspicious exploits and reports them to ensure the security of the server.
DDoS protection New
Our new DDoS protection automatically fends off attacks by scanning sites for malicious traffic, limiting unauthorized visits and redirecting them away from the site. As a result, DDoS, DoS and brute force attacks are quickly detected and blocked.
Simpler development and administration
The .htaccess file can be edited on the new infrastructure - ideal for agencies and freelancers who want to implement specific requirements. In addition, flexible tariff upgrades, improved database management with phpMyAdmin and a faster WordPress backend allow you to manage and use your website much more efficiently.
.htaccess editable New
If you want to use the .htaccess file, it can be edited on the new infrastructure. For example, you can store special bulk content and speed up your workflow. We only recommend this for experts. You can find instructions on how to do this in our Help Center.
Upgrades without box clone Update
Previously, you had to go through the process of cloning and a new domain connection to upgrade your Box. On the new Raidboxes infrastructure this is different and you can upgrade domains with one click.
Fast WordPress backend Update
According to our measurements, the WordPress backend loads up to 10x faster on the new infrastructure. Convince yourself of the performance of your WordPress backend and frontend on our new servers and test Raidboxes for up to 14 days free of charge and 100% without obligation.
Database administration with phpMyAdmin New
PhpMyAdmin replaces SQL Adminer and offers a more comprehensive user interface. With more functions and a better overview, it makes it easier to manage and organize your database. The extended search function, relational displays and extensive export/import options support more complex projects and make work more efficient.
Probably the most important innovation is the significant performance boost for all new Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes. The resources of these tariffs will be doubled on the new servers. Starter and Fully Managed boxes will then run with 2 cores and 4 GB RAM, Pro boxes with 4 cores and 8 GB RAM.
The new servers also have decisive new security features:
- DDoS protection automatically fends off attacks
- A new Exploit Detector will check new pages for suspicious scripts and files in future
- With the Raidboxes Security Shield, each box is automatically protected by a web application firewall
The Raidboxes Security Shield is a web application firewall that monitors incoming traffic. Malicious bots, brute force attacks and DDoS attacks are detected and can be fended off. Our DDoS protection limits unauthorized visits and redirects them away from your site.
When will the boxes be migrated and what do the changes mean for you?
Newly created Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes have been set up on the new servers since April 2024 and therefore benefit directly from the advantages mentioned above. For existing boxes: We migrate the boxes in three migration waves:
- In the first migration wave (already completed) , we initially migrated all boxes (Mini to Pro) that are connected to Raidboxes domain contracts.
- The second relocation wave (September - end of December 2024) concerns boxes (Mini to Pro) that are not connected to Raidboxes domain contracts. Here too, we will keep you up to date by email and via the Raidboxes Dashboard. Our Helpcenter also serves as a knowledge database.
- As part of the third migration wave (month - month 2024), all boxes from Pro XL to Enterprise XL will be migrated.
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please contact us at any time. You can find detailed information about the migration phases in this article.
The changeover will temporarily result in the following change: Custom SSL certificates cannot be set up at the beginning. However, we will of course create a free SSL certificate for every domain that you link to your boxes.
Our support team is always ready to answer your questions. We look forward to hearing your impressions of Raidboxes 2.0 and are always happy to receive your feedback!
